Land clearing, shelter belt removal or tree felling — which do you need?

Three related jobs, one crew. The short version: clearing a whole area is land clearing, taking out rows of windbreak trees is shelter belt removal, and dropping one or a few specific trees is felling.

[ 04 — Cost, timing & consent ]

What does land clearing cost, how long does it take, and do you need consent?

What it costs

Every block is different, so clearing is priced per job. The main things that move the price are the size of the area, how dense and overgrown it is, the size of the trees, access for gear, and how much green waste you want taken away. You get a free quote first, with no obligation.

How long it takes

A small overgrown section can be a day or two. A full block with big trees and heavy scrub takes longer. Justin gives you a realistic timeframe at the quote so you can plan around it.

Consent

Most standard section clearing on private land doesn't need consent. Clearing native vegetation, or working near waterways and wetlands, can need sign-off from Northland Regional Council or fall under district plan rules. Justin flags anything worth checking when he assesses the site.

Land clearing: common questions

What does land clearing include?

+
It's clearing a whole area rather than one tree: the trees, the scrub, the undergrowth and any regrowth. It can be part of a site or the entire block, cleared back to open, tidy ground you can build on, fence or farm.

Can you clear an overgrown section that's mostly scrub, not big trees?

+
Yes. Scrub and regrowth clearing is core work for us, not just felling big trees. If a section has been left to run wild, we bring it back to usable ground.

Can you clear a site for a new build or subdivision?

+
Yes. We do site clearing for owners and builders, working to your boundaries and keeping anything you want to protect. You get clear, level ground ready for the next stage.

How much does it cost to clear a section in Northland?

+
Clearing is priced per job. Cost depends on the area size, how overgrown it is, tree size, access, and how much green waste you want removed. A free on-site quote gives you a firm price with no obligation.

Do I need consent to clear vegetation in Northland?

+
Standard section clearing on private land usually doesn't. Clearing native vegetation, or work near waterways and wetlands, can need Northland Regional Council sign-off or fall under district plan rules. Justin flags anything worth checking at the assessment.

What happens to the trees and scrub you clear?

+
Your choice. We can chip and mulch it on site, ring and stack the good timber for firewood, or haul it away so you're left with clear ground and nothing to tidy up.
